4. RAY LIOTTA
The actor probably best known for his roles in Goodfellas and Field of Dreams often plays Italian-American characters. However, despite his last name, he’s actually not of Italian origin.
Ray Liotta was born in New Jersey in 1954 and was soon given for adoption. He was adopted when he was six months old by Mary and Alfred Liotta. The family also had another adopted child, a girl named Linda. His parents were Democrats and very politically active (both his mother and his father ran for local office, albeit unsuccessfully). He was raised a Catholic.
When asked about his childhood, Liotta said the family never kept his adoption a secret from him. In 2000 he searched for and found his biological mother. He discovered that, while his adoptive family is of Italian and Irish heritage, his natural heritage is Scottish. Through his biological parents he has one sister, five half-sisters and one half-brother.
