3. JESSE JACKSON
The Reverend Jesse Jackson is one of the most prominent figures in America and he has been so for decades. The celebrated Baptist minister and celebrated civil rights activist is also an active politician and a man who continues to inspire generations of Americans to strive for a better society.
He was born in Greenville, South Carolina, to Helen Burns, who at the time was only 16, and her 33-year old neighbor, Noah Louis Robinson, who at the time was married. Needless to say, such relationship was never meant to be and he girl was pressured to terminate the pregnancy. She didn’t and her son Jesse was born on October 8, 1941. One year later, his mother married Charles Henry Jackson, who worked in maintenance. A few years later, Jackson legally adopted the boy and gave him his last name. Jesse Jackson always considered both Robinson and Jackson as his fathers.
