The 42nd president of the United States of America was actually born William Jefferson Blythe III in Arkansas. His father, a traveling salesman, died in a car crash just a few months before his son was born. His mother decided to pursue a career in nursing and left for New Orleans to attend a nursing school soon after William was born. She left her son with her parents and didn’t return until he was four years old, during which time the grandparents took good care of the little boy.
William’s mother remarried to a car dealer by the name of Roger Clinton. Even though, as he later admitted, his time with his stepfather was not a happy one, as the man was an alcoholic and abusive towards his mother, the boy adopted his last name early on. When he was fifteen, he changed his name officially and became William Clinton.
