Andy Dick was born in Charleston, South Carolina, in 1965. He was immediately put up for adoption. His family was Presbyterian and they moved around a lot – Andy was an army brat. When his adoptive parents died, he managed to track down his birth mother. It turned out she was 16 when she got pregnant from a one-night stand. Andy asked about his father and the woman, although she initially refused to tell him his name, finally gave him his father’s phone number. The man at first refused to acknowledge him as his son but when he found out Dick was famous, reached out and contacted him. According to the comedian, he was looking to cash in on his son’s fame and fortune.
