9. WINONA RYDER
The iconic ‘90s actress has always had a reputation of a troublemaker, especially after her shoplifting scandal in 2001. However, nothing could ever diminish her work in Beetlejuice, Heathers, Mermaids, Edward Scissorhands, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Reality Bites, as well as in The Age of Innocence and Little Women.
Ryder co-produced and starred in the 1999 movie Girl, Interrupted about a girl’s two-week stay in a psychiatric facility due to depression. This movie was not just another job for Ryder, it was deeply personal since she herself had struggled with depression at different points in life. Following her split from Johnny Depp, she entered a dark period filled with substance abuse, alcoholism, and erratic behavior, culminating in the 2001 shoplifting scandal. She reached a tipping point when she fell asleep with a lit cigarette and set herself on fire. After this incident, she checked in a psychiatric facility and later continued seeing a private psychotherapist.
