Halle Berry is one of the greatest movie stars of our time, a gorgeous woman who also used to model and an immensely talented actress. In 2002, she won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Monster’s Ball and remains the only woman of color to have ever received that particular award. Her other notable movies include Introducing Dorothy Dandridge, for which she won an Emmy and a Golden Globe, The Flinstones, Die Another Day, Swordfish, Catwoman, Cloud Atlas and, of course, X-Men.
Although extremely successful and appreciated, Berry has had her share of grief and depression. Following the demise of her marriage to the MLB star David Justice in 1997, Berry went through a period when she thought she wouldn’t make it. She was severely depressed and even attempted suicide. She was sitting in her car, in the garage, when she realized she might just let the gas come in and get it over with. She later recalled thinking of her mother and all of a sudden, suicide seemed like a selfish and cowardly thing to do.
