10. CATHERINE ZETA-JONES

The Welsh actress is one of the most successful women of her generation. She has received one Academy Award (for Chicago), a BAFTA Award (again for Chicago) and a Tony Award (for A Little Night Music), as well as numerous other accolades and awards. In addition to Chicago, which propelled her to stardom, Zeta-Jones is also known for her roles in Ocean’s Twelve, The Legend of Zorro, Traffic, The Rebound, Side Effects and Intolerable Cruelty. She has been married to Michael Douglas since 2000.

However, Zeta-Jones’ life is not all fame, wealth, and success. The actress struggled for years with depression, more precisely with bipolar II disorder. This particular type of disorder is characterized by hypomania alternated with bouts of depression, unlike type I bipolar, which has to include at least one serious manic episode. The actress went public with her issues in 2011 in an attempt to raise awareness about this problem and fight the social stigma that people who suffer from bipolar disorder often experience.
