7. Shawn Johnson
Shawn Johnson was born on January 19, 1992, in Des Moines, Iowa, the only child of parents Doug and Teri Johnson. Since her early childhood, she has been an extremely energetic child, and as a solution to her excess energy levels, her parents enrolled her in gymnastics when she was only three. A couple of years later, she began practicing under the tutorage of instructor Liang Chow at his training facility.
Johnson proved to be an excellent gymnast, and it wasn’t long after that Chow realized she would be a viable Olympics competitor. Years and years of tedious training later, she finally met the age requirement and competed in the 2008 Olympics at the age of 16. Everyone who knew her and saw her perform was certain she would win something, but when she amassed four gold medals, and three silver medals, many jaws dropped straight to the ground.
