2. Tom Arnold
Famous actor, comedian, and television host Tom Arnold is yet another prominent person who was born in Iowa, and it was Ottumwa that welcomed him to this world on March 6, 1959. Arnold was raised by his father, seeing as his parents split when he was only 4 years old, and he often clashed with his stepmother after his father remarried. He worked at a meat factory but was dismissed from the job – a turning point in his life, which he often mentions in interviews explaining:
“If I hadn’t gotten fired from the meatpacking plant, I…would still be working there.”
After attending the University of Iowa for some time, he became interested in comedy, eventually meeting and marrying stand-up talent Roseanne Barr. Their marriage was a very public one, often complicated by his alcohol and drug addictions. He landed his breakthrough role in True Lies alongside Arnold Schwartzenegger and Jaime Lee Curtis and from there, things just exploded.
