19. Johnny Carson
Carson was a famous American television host, writer, producer, actor, comedian, and musician, quite possibly best known for his thirty years of hosting The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson (1962-1992). He received six Emmy awards, a Peabody Award in 1985, and the Governor’s Award. He was also inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame in 1987 and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1992. In addition to all those impressive rewards, he was also the proud receiver of the Kennedy Center Honor in 1993.
Born in Corning, Iowa, on October 23, 1925, to Ruth and Homer R. Carson, Johnny learned how to reel in audiences at a very young age. He fell in love with magic when he was 12 years old, and even purchased a magician’s kit through the mail, performing magic tricks in public as “The Great Carson.” He once admitted that the period was one of his main breakthroughs as it enabled him to deal with “the pressure that crowds often give you.”
