13. Kate Mulgrew
Born on April 29, 1955, in Dubuque, Iowa, actress Kate Mulgrew had her dealings with performing as early as her teenage years. She earned an associate degree at the New York University in 1976 and launched her professional career around this time after she was cast as a member on the soap opera Ryan’s Hope. During the mid-1990’s, she starred as Captain Kathryn Janeway on Star Trek: Voyager and did a lot of theater work before finding acclaim on the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black.
She is the oldest daughter of Joan and Thomas Mulgrew and she grew up in rural Iowa, far away from all the aspects of what you would call modern civilization today. She mentioned in a few interviews how they lived “wa-a-a-a-aaay out in the country,” in a world of their own. Figuratively speaking, of course.
