Shawn Corey Carter, better known as Jay-Z, is one of the wealthiest and most successful people in the entire world, with an estimated net worth of about half a billion dollars. He is the owner of the 40/40 club and the co-creator of the clothing line Rocawear. Three of his albums, Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint, and The Black Album were featured on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time, and all three of them are considered landmarks in the genre.
However, it wasn’t always fame and bling for Carter – his father abandoned him and his three siblings. He used to sell crack cocaine to get by, and as he frequently mentions, he has been shot three times during his life. At the age of 12, he shot his older brother in the shoulder because he stole his jewelry. Also, he “blacked out” in anger after a long quarrel with Lance Rivera, and like any mature, professional artist would, settled the score by stabbing Rivera in the stomach at a club party in 1999.
