15. Robert Downey Jr.
It isn’t that surprising to learn that Robert Downey Jr. had some serious issues with drugs when you remember the fact that he grew up “surrounded by drugs.” His father was a drug addict and allowed Downey to smoke marijuana at the age of six. Downey even once stated that drug use became something of an emotional bond between him and his father, adding:
“When my dad and I would do drugs together, it was like him trying to express his love for me in the only way he knew how.”
From 1996 through 2001, Downey had been arrested numerous times on drug-related charges including cocaine, heroin and marijuana possession. He went through several treatment programs, all of which turned out to be unsuccessful. He was also arrested for gun possession when the police found a .357 Magnum in his car while he was speeding down Sunset Boulevard. He was sentenced to three years in prison but was surprisingly released after only one year.
