17. Mickey Rourke
There are celebs who are crazy about their dogs and then there’s Mickey Rourke. Throughout his life, Mickey has taken his love for dogs to almost religious proportions, claiming that his pups saved his life and gave him the strength to make that huge comeback from an otherwise ill-fated career.
The famous actor and professional boxer loves and takes care of several dogs, including a rescue dog he flew home from Romania, but the pooch that had the biggest impact on Rourke was a Chihuahua mix named Loki.
That dog helped him turn his life around. He said, on more than one occasion, that he wouldn’t be here today had it not been for Loki. He loved that dog so much that he turned down the offer to have his very own star on the Hollywood walk of fame because the people who choose who gets a star and who doesn’t refused to add Loki’s name to the star.
Rourke and Loki were inseparable for 18 long years and even though the adorable Chihuahua is not with us anymore, she will definitely never be forgotten.
Here’s what he said in his 2009 Golden Globe award speech:
‘’ I’d like to thank all my dogs, the ones that are here, the ones that aren’t here anymore, because sometimes when a man’s alone that’s all you got is your dog, and they meant the world to me.’’
