When she filed for divorce from Nasty Nas, Kelis was eight months pregnant and had no money at all. Based on the claim that Nas’ monthly income was $150,000, she was to be given child support in $10,000 per month installments, and she also claimed Nas owed her $300,000. His lawyers said that would be impossible since he had nowhere near that kind of cash.
So, while the singer and rapper never officially filed for bankruptcy nor was she declared bankrupt, it is clear that, at least in 2009, she was absolutely broke, and yet continued to aspire to a lavish lifestyle she was accustomed to.
