Javier Bardem is a former rugby player and a famous actor, the most acclaimed of his roles being the one he played in No Country For Old Men.
He was raised in a Catholic family, but was never particularly religious, and eventually renounced his faith. His questions, like many other people’s, were never answered, and he started to realize that one’s faith can be used to produce fear and manipulate people based on that fear.
The death of his father made him realize religion is just a way for people to deal with death, which is understandable, given that the idea of all our loved ones having fun up in the sky is very comforting. Still, that idea can make people look too far into the future and forget about the present, which is something this actor does not agree with.
