Mary Tyler Moore is known for being one of the cheeriest and friendliest television personalities ever, but not everything in her life was coming up roses. Not many people know, but Moore had a son that committed suicide.
His name was Richard Meeker Jr. and he killed himself in 1980. However, some still believe that it was an accident. Whether he wanted to do it or not, Richard shot and killed himself with a sawed-off shotgun.According to the police reports, Richard always kept the gun with him because he was afraid of his home being robbed. He was playing with the gun one night, simply loading it and then unloading it, and suddenly it went off.
The wound killed Richard instantly. He was only 24 years old. Moore does not like to talk about it much, and many people do not even know that he was her son, since he went by his father’s last name.
