Despite a 13-year age gap, this couple has stayed together for nearly 17 years. Hugh met the Australian actress in 1995 on the set of the Australian TV show “Correlli.”
Hugh proposed three and a half months later. He himself designed the wedding ring for Deborra.
‘’I’d been living off 120 bucks a week as a student until I was 26. Then, when I met Deb, it was 10 times better than my single life. She was very beautiful. She was unbelievably fun — this energy, this spirit — irrepressible. And she had a confidence in herself. I had a massive crush on her instantly. She was sort of the opposite of me. I was very ‘Even Steven,’ and she was thrilling to me. I was always really attracted to that — though at one point, as it was getting really serious, it terrified me.”
Deborra confessed that their relationship got better every year.
“I believe that we do have you know soul mates or partners in this life and when I met Hugh there was just a click and it wasn’t you know love at first sight, like the second I looked at him and it was just I knew, there was a knowingness and he sort of felt like he got me and it was, he was cute, but it wasn’t just about that, it was there was something that just gelled and I mean and I thought, I looked at him then and thought this man will be in my life as a friend, and then it developed into something else.”
The couple adopted two children after Deborra-Lee had two miscarriages.
