The leader of the Free Folk, Mance Rayder is played by the Irish actor Ciarán Hinds. In case you were wondering, his name is pronounced “Keeran.” He was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and was an Irish dancer when he was a kid.
‘’My feet always danced to Irish traditional music, but I was very glad to get out of the North of Ireland in the mid-Seventies when it was really closed and tight and relentlessly unforgiving.’’ The King Beyond the Wall initially went to law school, but quit in order to pursue an acting career. He graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art He is best known for his starring role as Julius Caesar on the TV series ‘’Rome’’ and as Aberforth Dumbledore in ‘’Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.’’
He also appeared in critically acclaimed films such as ‘’Road to Perdition’’, ‘’The Phantom of the Opera’’, ‘’Munich’’ and ‘’Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.’’ Hinds lives in Paris with his long-time girlfriend, Hélène Patarot, with whom he has a daughter.
