Ilyn Payne is a recurring character in the first and second season of ‘’Game of Thrones.’’ The silent knight and King’s Justice is played by the English actor and musician Wilko Johnson.
Johnson is best known as the singer, guitarist and songwriter for the rhythm and blues band Dr. Feelgood from the 1970s. Wilko had a profound influence on the British punk rock movement.
If we’d stayed together, we’d have fitted in perfectly with punk. In fact, we’d have walked all over punk. But by then it was all blowing up in our faces. People were more interested in the Pistols [The Sex Pistols] and The Clash. They weren’t interested in this band splitting up because of some obscure row. And in the excitement surrounding punk, we were forgotten.
The role of Ilyn Payne was his first acting role ever. “‘They said they wanted somebody really sinister who went around looking daggers at people before killing them. That made it easy. Looking daggers at people is what I do all the time, it’s like second nature to me.”
