5. Record Breaker
For someone who was alive back in 1993, it is difficult to remember the world before Doggystyle, Snoop Dogg’s first album and still one of the most important rap albums of all time. But there was such a time, a dark, dark time without songs like Gz and Hustlaz, Murder Was the Case and Gin and Juice.
Doggystyle met a few negative critics, but most people who knew what they were talking about agreed on it immediately – it was a masterpiece. Moreover, it was a record-breaker, a rap album that pushed the limits.
For instance, in its first week, it sold more than 800,000 copies. This was back in the day when you had to go to the store to buy a record. It later went four times platinum and is to this day one of the best-selling rap albums ever.
