19. Elisabeth Hasselbeck
The former co-host of The View and as of recently also former co-host of Fox&Friends is one of the most vocal celiac disease sufferers, who dedicated a lot of time and energy into raising awareness about this ailment that is more than a simple food allergy.
Hasselbeck wrote a book called The G-Free Diet: A Gluten-Free Survival Guide and teamed with Dr. Oz on several occasions to talk about this increasingly common disease. Celiac disease is not just an allergy or intolerance to wheat. It’s the body’s inability to digest and metabolize any kind of food that contains gluten. This includes almost all cereals, such as barley, oats and rye.
These days so many people are going gluten-free, but as Hasselbeck insists, for those with celiac disease it’s not just a fad, it’s the only way to be well. Her point is that living without gluten is possible especially if you consider the alternatives, which would include pretty unpleasant body reactions to this protein.
