Whether you love him or hate him (and he has about a 50/50 lovers to haters ratio), there’s no denying that Ray Romano is one of the most popular and influential comedians of the late 1990’s and the early 2000’s. The whiny Romano may actually have a good reason for coming off as such as weakling and wimp – he actually suffers from a life-threatening peanut allergy.
It became public in 2001 when Romano was attending a fundraiser for children with AIDS and had to be rushed to a hospital at UCLA after eating a piece of snack that contained peanuts, probably only in traces. The comedian suffered a severe allergic reaction that could’ve ended tragically had he not been rushed to the hospital as soon as he was.
Peanut allergies are particularly dangerous because very often they are so severe they can be fatal. Severe allergic reactions may lead to anaphylactic shock, a condition than can result in death.
