8. Shannen Doherty

Actress Shannen Doherty is probably most famous for her role as Brenda in the hit 1990s TV series ”Beverly Hills 90210” and was beloved earlier in her career for playing one of the Little House on the ”Prairie kids.”

However, in more recent times, Shannen has become known for being a rather outspoken member of the Republican party even as she navigates the social scene in Hollywood. As Shannen entered adulthood and began to vote, it became clear fairly quickly (and even before then) that she sympathized with the right rather than the left.

Not long ago, Doherty told US Weekly magazine that her Hollywood peers should not have a problem with the fact that she is a Republican. She realizes that the majority of people in the entertainment industry are, indeed, Democrats, and yet she chooses to confidently assert her right to be a Republican and to be open about it.

Doherty has contributed to the National Republican Senatorial Committee, openly supported Ronald Reagan and in 1992, she led the Pledge of Allegiance at the Republican National Convention. (That was the year George H.W. Bush lost his reelection bid to Bill Clinton.) In 2012, Doherty broke ranks with the rest of Hollywood and endorsed Mitt Romney.

She is a vocal supporter of gay marriage, believing that everyone has the right to love and be with whom they truly love, but she also supports the Republican foreign policy. She once stated that she “loved” Donald Rumsfeld and was also a “big supporter” of President Bush when he mounted the surge of troops to the Middle East following 9/11 and ever since then.

Doherty would probably be able to have a very spirited debate with her former ”90210” co-star Jason Priestly who is a liberal Democrat, but so far, a public debate has not taken place.
