10. LL Cool J
James Todd Smith, otherwise known as ”LL Cool J,” is a rapper, hip hop artist, TV star and movie actor.
Some of his most famous hit songs include “I Need Love,” “Going Back to Cali,” “Mama Said Knock You Out,” “Hey Lover” and “Around the Way Girl,” among many others. ”LL Cool J,” which stands for “Ladies Love Cool James,” has also gone on to star in a number of TV and movie roles which has only further increased his fame.
But James Todd Smith gives America occasional glimpses into his political leanings from time to time. He backed a Republican candidate in the elections of 2002, supporting the Republican Governor of New York George Pataki in his bid for a third Gubernatorial term.
While ”LL Cool J” has also supported Left Wingers such as Democratic New York State Senator Malcolm Smith in his annual Jump and Ball Tournament since the year 2003 in his own childhood neighborhood St. Albans, Queens, most believe this is more about getting back to his childhood roots and showing respect than out of a political motive. BET reports that the multi-talented celebrity backed John McCain at the 2004 convention.
Despite expressing sympathy for and with President Barack Obama on the Piers Morgan show on CNN, ”LL Cool J” was also quick to add that no one should “assume” that he is automatically a Democrat because of this.
While he has listed Barack Obama as someone he admires and has used the word “independent” in reference to his political leanings from time to time, many insiders believe that ”LL Cool J” is much more Republican than he is willing to let on. He is, for the most part, low-key about his political views and prefers to stick to what he does best: rapping, acting and making great music.
