Jim Carrey is probably the single highest paid comedic actor in the world, and has been for the better part of a decade. But he also came from humble beginnings. Carrey had a lot of financial problems when he was young. However, he said that he developed his humor and funny antics while he was poor, because he needed to be funny to make his family smile when times were tough.
After dropping out of high school, Carrey lived in a VW bus with his family. The family would roam around Canada in the bus and live out of it. Finally, they ended up moving to his sister’s house. But not into their house, the family parked the VW bus in front and set up a tent on his sister’s front yard.
This was right before he decided to move to America and be a comedian. After a short stint doing stand up, Carrey landed a role on the show In Living Color, and his career boomed from there on.
