18. Shania Twain
The country music goddess and one of the most beautiful women in the world sold over 38 million copies of her records worldwide, which makes her one of the best-selling artists of all time, with all the crazy money that comes with that. However, Twain was not always wealthy and successful. As a child, she was even homeless for a while.
Twain grew up in rural Ontario, Canada, in circumstances that can only be described as tough and inhumane. Her family was very poor and young Shania sometimes had to chop wood and hunt to survive. There was also abuse and violence between her mother and her stepfather.
When Shania was 14, she convinced her mother to pack up the kids and drive 420 miles to Toronto to seek assistance from a homeless shelter. They stayed there for two years before coming back home. Twain did odd jobs, including reforestation, before she finally got her big break as a singer.
