16. Drew Carey

The legendary television game show host came a long way from poverty and homelessness to what he is today. Drew Carey is best known as the host of “The Price is Right,” “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” and “The Drew Carey Show.” His estimated worth today is a staggering $165 million. However, at a 2010 benefit gala for the Friends of Youth, Carey told the audience a little bit about the difficulties he had to overcome to get where he is today.

Carey studied at Kent State University but didn’t do very well, so after three years he decided to quit and move to California, where his brother was living. He ran out of money somewhere around Las Vegas and had to stay in the Sin City for a while, homeless and doing odd jobs, including selling his blood plasma for $40 per week and picking up spare change from the street.
