14. Dr. Phil
Phil McGraw, better known as Dr. Phil, is certainly one of the greatest and the most popular television personalities of our times, and certainly the most famous mental health professional in the world. His daytime talk show Dr. Phil continuously tops the charts for the most viewed television shows and the man’s net worth is sky-high. However, before he got his break with guest appearances on Oprah in the early 1990s, McGraw had gone through some difficult times.
When he was a 12-year old boy, McGraw and his father, who was a psychology intern, were broke, homeless and living out of a car in Kansas City. McGraw’s father, however, made sure his son went to school regularly and paved the way for him to become a psychologist himself. Dr. Phil first obtained a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in psychology and then a PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Northern Texas.
