13. Oscar Pistorius
This was probably the arrest that no one expected. Oscar became famous as the man with no legs that was able to keep up with Olympic runners while running on two blades that he has instead of legs. He was an inspirational story for the sports world and for all amputees around the globe. However, the story turned into a tragic one when Pistorius was arrested and accused of murdering his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
The trial is still ongoing and it is one of the most famous trials in Oscar’s home country of South Africa. According to what the defendant has said, he thought that his girlfriend was actually an intruder that was trying to break into his house, and that is why he shot her. The model died after suffering several gunshot wounds.
Pistorius has been in custody since February 2013 and the trial is still ongoing. Some do not believe the runner’s story, and believe that he will be convicted of murder. Reports say that Pistorius had a history of aggressive behavior and domestic violence.
While there are fans of the runner that believe his story of mistaken identity, a large section of the population believes that it was a premeditated murder.
The world continues to follow this story and trial closely and nothing has been resolved yet. According to the latest reports, Oscar has been taken to a psychiatric institution and is being evaluated for mental problems currently. He will be there for an entire month, though on an outpatient schedule, which means that he can go home every night. It remains to be seen how this and the eventual findings will impact the case.
