Selena was probably the most popular Mexican singer of all time. She was shot and killed in 1995 by the president of her own fan club, Yolanda Saldivar. Most people in America know Selena from the movie about her life, in which she was played by Jennifer Lopez.
In 1995, people around Selena realized that Yolanda was embezzling money from her fan club and they were getting ready to fire her. Yolanda then made a deal with Selena to meet in a hotel room, where they would clear up some financial issues and Yolanda would hand over some important documents to her. Yolanda avoided the meeting earlier, telling Selena that she had been raped. Even though she went to the hospital to see if she was alright, the hospital did not show any records of this event.
When they finally did meet at the motel, Selena looked over the papers and said that some important financial documents are missing. Yolanda then took a gun out of her purse and shot Selena. Selena tried to run away, so the gun shot did not hit her directly. However, it did sever an artery in her right shoulder.
Selena was taken to the hospital, but died there.
