5. Ian Somerhalder
Ian stars in The Vampire Diaries and his character Damon is a heartless, thoughtless and homicidal vampire. In real life, Ian runs his own charity, supports over a dozen services and even has meetings with President Obama to discuss environmental issues.
Ian is known for his love of the planet and was involved in the cleanup after the Deepwater Horizon oil drilling disaster on April 22, 2010. His efforts included cleaning of oiled wildlife and taping announcements to let the public know the ways they could help.
He also supports the St. Tammany Humane Society. It’s an organization for animal shelter and welfare. His efforts go mostly to saving wildlife.
In 2010, he hosted a Bash on the Bayou charity fundraiser for the Society. During the event, Ian was presented with a donation of $11,100 by The Vampire Diaries fans for his birthday project.
Together with his co-stars in the series, Candice Accola and Michael Trevino, he supports the It Gets Better Project. Its goal is to prevent suicide among LGBT youth associated with The Trevor Project.
Somerhalder announced via Twitter and in various interviews that he was setting up “Ian Somerhalder Foundation” (launched on December 8, 2010, his 32nd birthday), which he hopes will educate people on the importance of protecting the environment and animals, “Instead of gifts this year, my birthday wish is that we come together and raise funds to support projects that protect our habitat and nurture our furry friends.”
He’s the guy you would take home to meet your parents.
In September 2011, he confirmed rumors that he and his The Vampire Diaries co-star Nina Dobrev were in a relationship.
However, in May 2013, it was stated that the relationship had ended.
