17. Robin Roberts
Robin is the perfect example of a woman who deals with her serious health issues with an inspiring dose of courage, strength, and determination. This charming American television broadcaster and anchor of ABC’s Good Morning America was diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer in 2007. She underwent surgery on August 3, 2007. By January 2008, Robin had completed a whopping eight chemotherapy treatments, which were followed by six and a half weeks of radiation treatment.
Like that wasn’t enough, she was diagnosed with a fairly rare disease of the bone marrow called myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) in 2012. It’s a very serious disease in which the bone marrow does not make enough healthy blood cells. A nonprofit organization run by the National Marrow Donor Program called Be The Match Registry experienced an incredible 1,800% rise in donors the day Roberts publicly announced her illness. She truly is an inspiration to many.
