Everyone thinks Jon Hamm smokes because his character on Mad Men is so good at it. Just because his character not only smokes all day, but also sells cigarettes in his ad agency, doesn’t mean that Hamm smokes in real life. But he definitely used to. Hamm said that he quit when he was 24 years old.
While he does admit that it looks cool when someone smokes, he said that it is really cool when you wake up smelling like an ashtray. So the question is, what does he smoke when he is filming Mad Men? Hamm said that those are herbal cigarettes. And he says that he has to smoke a lot of them. Since there are at least five or six takes for every scene, that means he needs to light up that many times for each scene.
