Drew Barrymore’s Half-Sister Found Dead

Actress Drew Barrymore sent her condolences to the family of her half-sister Jessica Barrymore, 47-year old, after she was found dead on Tuesday, July 29. She said that while she didn’t know her, she was sorry to hear of her death.
Jessica, who shared her father John Barrymore with Drew, was found dead in her car, with the family speculating she had an accidental overdose. Hours after the news broke Drew, who has battled her own demons with addiction, stated that she was “incredibly sad” to hear the news.
“Although I only met her briefly, I wish her and her loved ones as much peace as possible and I’m so incredibly sorry for their loss,” she said in a statement.
Drew and Jessica were two of five children that actor John Barrymore Jnr fathered. The acting dynasty, which was made famous by Drew’s grandfather John and his siblings, Lionel and Ethel, have been one of Hollywood’s most important acting families. However, they’ve also become famous for their addictions.
Drew herself was smoking by the age of nine, and used cocaine by 13.
Speaking to the New York Daily News, John Barrymore, Jessica and Drew’s half-brother, stated the death was probably caused by an accidental overdose.
“It looks like it was a drug misadventure. Mixing alcohol and pills. I seriously doubt she took her own life,” he said. “There were some empty vodka bottles, a couple bags of meth and a variety of pills in the car. My guess is that it was the booze and pills, like with Heath Ledger.”
